3 weeks old

I haven't posted any new pics lately, so i thought i would since Shelby will be three weeks old tomorrow! She's been sleeping around 4 hours at night at a time, but thats mostly on the couch. Although she's been in her crib now for 3 hours, it must just be a nighttime thing that she doesn't sleep long in her crib!

First Sunday to church

Shelby made her first trip to church this morning! Pastor Andrew showed her off to the congregation, but big brother wasn't too happy about Pastor taking her away from Grandma! It was pretty funny! He thought that he was going to take her away!

Family picture!

Well Shelby has been in her crib now for almost three hours, but the bad thing is its just 8 PM now. She did the same thing last night, then by midnight she was wide eyed and bushy tailed! If we could just get her on our schedule it would be great! :) But i know it'll come with time. She's really a good baby! Hardly ever cries, unless she's getting her diaper changed or a bath. She doesn't like being cold-i don't blaim her!
I forgot to post earlier this week, but Shelby went to the doctor on Monday for her week checkup. She was almost back to her birthweight, which the doctor was happy about. She was a little jaundice, but nothing bad at all! He said everything else looked great. We go back when she's a month old!

Mitchell and Shelby

Just a little update on whats been going on in the Carey house the past week! Shelby has been sleeping the days away! She's starting to become a little more alert! We have been having to keep her inclined because she has been a little congested! The doctor said its just the time of the year! We went back to the doctor with her yesterday for her week old checkup and he said she looked great! Almost back to her birth weight! Mitchell has been a big help with getting things for us. He has loved having his daddy home for almost a week now and has become quite attached! Unfortunately he has to go back to work tomorrow! I personally feel great. Shelby's delivery was much easier on the body! :)

Here's a picture of Mitchell and Shelby both on the couch around the same age. I'm thinking Shelby is going to look a little more like her daddy-or at least have her complexion! Or it could just be the hair throwing me off. Mine was that dark, then it all fell out and came back bleach blonde, so we shall see! Mitchell at 1 week old

Meet Shelby Dianne Carey

Shelby Dianne Carey arrived at 8:24 AM on September 9th, 2009 (9-09-09) We were shooting for 9:09 AM but she didn't want to wait that long and i was completely fine by that! She weighed 7 lbs. 0.8 oz. and was 19 1/2 inches long and that was 2 weeks and a day early!
Birth story: Yesterday as i was laying with Mitchell i noticed that i was leaking fluid quite a bit (well at the time i was assuming it was fluid because i knew i wasn't peeing on myself) :) So Mitchell decided that he wanted to go swimming, so we took off to grandma's for a little swimming. We probably swam for a little over an hour, then got out and played a bit. Well i was really "leaking" at that point-not having any contractions though. So mom said that i should call my doctor and see what he said. So he decided to have me come in and get checked! We arrived at the hospital at 7PM and the nurse did a test and it was definitely fluid leaking but said that it was probably a high leak, so they had me walk around for an hour, then they would re-examine me. I was dilated to a two, still leaking, but no contractions. So they finally started me on pitocin around 11:30PM. By 3:30 AM all of my water was pretty much gone and the contractions were getting pretty mean! So i got my first epidural at 4AM-it only took on one side, same as last time, but luckily the anesthesiologist didn't give up and he tried again. The second time was the charm. In between my two epidurals the nurses checked me and felt something out of place, so they did an ultrasound and saw that Shelby had her arm up over her head-she definitely wouldn't be coming out like this, so they tried maneuvering her arm around, but she wouldn't budge. At this point the nurses called my doctor and he said to stop the pitocin. In the meantime my mom was pacing and posting on facebook. Many prayers were said on behalf of me and Shelby, so when my doctor finally got there to check things out her hand was no longer over her head! By 8:00 AM I was ready to push. I think she would have popped out in about 15 minutes, but we had to wait on my doctor to come back, so i had to quit pushing for a while. Then she was finally born at 8:24 AM.
Welcome to the world Shelby! You have your brothers nose and chin!

7 lbs. 0.8 oz. 19 1/2 inches long. Not bad for 2 weeks and a day early!

Proud Papa who we almost had to admit! He turned a little green and pale there for a while!

Proud brother singing "Jesus Loves Me" to Shelby. It was too sweet! Brought tears to my eyes!

Getting kisses from my baby boy!

Sucking on that finger!

First hairbow! (the nurses put it in) HAHA

Sweet baby girl!

She's Here

Hi all this is Jamie, Kristin's sister in-law I high jacked her blog to let everyone know that Miss Shelby arrived this morning. Both Mom and Shelby are doing great!

But Daffy Duck does it...

Most of you who have facebook have already heard this story, but i just wanted to put it on here, so i'd remember!
Yesterday as I was laying with Mitchell for his nap, he sat up really quickly, but his hands over his mouth, then proceeded to puke everywhere. (and he had a very big lunch too) Once he got through i noticed a nickel amongst the throw up! After he got calmed down i asked him if he was ok because he never mentioned his stomach hurting at all, then he says, I put the nickel in my mouth! I said, "why did you do that?" he said, because Daffy Duck eats money!" NICE! I love watching Looney Tunes, but it looks like we maybe shouldn't watch it anymore! HAHA After i got his sheets in the wash i gave him a bath, then he was asleep in record time! I was just very happy that i was still in there and that he didn't get chocked! Now, all coins will be put up-VERY HIGH!!

37 weeks

I went this morning for my 37 week check-up. He put me on the machine that monitors my contractions and Shelby's heartrate for 20 minutes. They are mainly checking to see if the baby is under any stress. I was definetly having contractions pretty regularly, but not the kind that go to the top of the chart when you are in labor. Her heartbeat and breathing looked good, except for one dip, so he decided to check my fluids just to make sure everything looked ok. He did and said everything looked just fine. He showed me that the umbilical cord is right in front of her hands, so sometimes they get bored and play with it, which in turn causes their heartrate to drop. I told him that she probably thinks its a softball bat! :) I go back in a week! Not too much longer to go!
